Update
A few things have happened since I last posted on this blog:
1. Most notably, we had a baby! Quentin Carlysle Galbraith was born on March 22nd at 11:18 pm. Sarah had a great natural delivery with no complications. He's an adorable little guy who doesn't like to sleep but loves to hang out with mom. It's been an adjustment learning how to be a parent, but just when I think I'm cracking he flashes a cute little smile making it all worthwhile. 2. We've had lots of visitors. Sarah's mom and sister came up right after Q-ball was born. Then her dad and other sister, then my mom, then my sister, then Sarah's sister again, and then my mom again. It's been great having lots of help and we probably couldn't have done everything on our own.
3. We went to New York City last weekend. My mom, two aunts, and my grandmother were in NYC for a few days catching some shows, so we drove up to visit them. It was our first long outing with Q-bert and he did great. He didn't complain, even when we missed the subway train and then missed the Staten Island ferry on the way home. As usual, our trip revolved mostly around food: we went to Tom Coliccio's Wichcraft for lunch and the Shake Shack in Madison Square Park for dinner. My mom et. al. were staying at the Gramercy Park Hotel, so we had a great time hanging out with them on the posh roofdeck.
4. I went to Washington DC for a research conference. Well, they told us it was in DC, but it was actually in Gaithersburg, MD, which isn't nearly as cool as DC. Needless to say we were all disappointed when the cab kept driving out of the city and into the suburbs. The coolest part of the conference was getting to tour the NIH laboratories. They are doing some interesting research, most notably stem cell research which should hopefully get a nice jump start under the Obama administration.
5. At the end of May I will be assigned my first patients. It's a bit scary to think that I will soon be injecting, drilling, cutting, and managing real live, breathing people. In theory I know how it should all go down, but when you throw in the human factor nothing is predictable. I can't wait, though, because this is what I came to dental school to do and what I will be doing for the rest of my career. Classes were an absolute bear this year (hence the lack of blogging), but somehow I squeaked by unscathed.
Actually, I do know how I made it through: my beautiful wife picked up my slack. She's a real dream come true.

Thankful
Well, miracles never cease.
I am happy to report that as of December 8th I will be joining the ranks of the gainfully employed!
I got another position at my old company which is awesome for the following reasons:
1) I am eligible for maternity leave with good maternity benefits
2) We will have health insurance after the baby is born
3) They have a lactation room
4) My boss is in a different building so I will pretty much be a one woman show.
5) My new lab is POSH. brand new and super nice with HUGE windows.
6) My new program is AWESOME. Different than what I have been doing
7) I get to learn electrophysiology.
8) It is guaranteed for 2 years which in my industry and this economy is the equivalent of eternity. Plus, it works out well with the timing of Colin's schooling.
9) I can still take the company shuttle so I don't have to drive.
10) I can go back to spin class, which I LOVE.
11) I pretty much just got paid to take a 2 month vacation.
I am feeling very blessed this Thanksgiving season. And I can't wait to get started!
What should I do with my 2 weeks left? Go to Boston? Decorate the nursery?
Hmmmmm........
Oh yes, for those who don't know, we are having a little BOY!
