Burn baby Burn

Wednesday night part of this huge apartment complex a few blocks from our house burned down. It was a crazy fire. 8-alarm, which among fire fighters is as big as they come. Or so I'm told.

Apparently a construction site that was next to the complex caught on fire. Since the structure was mostly plywood and lumber the thing went up like a torch and the flames lept to the apartment building and an office building on the other side of the site and caught both buildings on fire.

Luckily nobody was hurt, but it was really sad. Especially since some people we know from church who were here for the summer lost everything they brought with them, including their car. And, Colin's friend from school who was out of town lost his apartment too.

Colin got the last train our of Center City and they had no idea what was going on so when they rolled into the train station everybody started screaming because there was a huge fireball 100ft in the air. And it was hot, hot, hot. And no, I'm not exaggerating. the thing was huge. This is what they happened upon:

Here are some pictures Colin G took of the event:

Let me just say, without reservation, that this was probably the most action the Consho.hocken fire station has seen in a loooooong time. Actually, apparently it took 300 something fire fighters from around Philly to put the thing out, which was still going yesterday morning on my way to work.
